GreenHouse Gases Emissions Reduction

What is Global Warming and Climate Change?

Temperature of the whole world is considerably increasing. An average increase of this global temperature is referred as Global warming or Climate change. It is assumed that both human activities and natural proceedings are contributing in average temperature. Main cause of this increase is the emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon Dioxide (CO2).

What is the Greenhouse Effect?

The term greenhouse and greenhouse effect are used interchangeably.

  • Global climate and weather on earth depends on the energy that directly reaches to them from sun. This energy heats up the earth's surface. This energy is emitted back into the space by earth. Some of the gases in atmosphere trap some portion of this energy; these gases retain that energy in them just like a glass panel around the four side of a greenhouse covers it. These gases therefore are termed as greenhouse gases. Some of these gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide, and other gases.
  • The activity of gases to trap the solar energy causes a rise in the global temperature and this is what we hear as Greenhouse effect.

What are Greenhouse Gases?

There are six main gases that are known as greenhouse gases because they contribute towards the greenhouse effect. These gases are as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) and Nitrous Oxide (N20) and these are regulated under the provision of Kyoto Protocol. Few of other gases that less frequently contributes towards the greenhouse effect are Hydro fluorocarbons (HFCs), Per fluorocarbons (PFCs) and Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6).

What is the solution for the greenhouse problem?

Main solution that is proposed to stop or reduce the greenhouse effect is to reduce the human activities that cause emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This emission reduction can be achieved with a mutual coalition between government, businesses, communities and individuals. The technologies which can be used in emission reductions are already available and are in our reach.

Why focus is on carbon dioxide (CO2)?

The main gas that significantly contributes towards global warming is Carbon Dioxide. It has 50% share of the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. A full and serious environmental plan should be drawn to address this issue as Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is the main contributor in the global warming. Main sources of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) generation are power plants and vehicles utilizing fossil fuel, and the remaining portion is released from various agricultural and other activities.

Global Warming Potential or GWP

All the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere share some common properties such as they absorb the energy that comes from the sun, second they can radiate that energy back into the space. These gases are compared after they are categorized according to their potential contribution towards global warming technically known as “Global Warming Potential” (GWP). GWP is defined as the ability of the greenhouse gases to trap the heat equal to an amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). In GWP category carbon dioxide holds the number one position; though this is the most widely spread GreenHouse Gas still it's the least powerful GHG.

Greenhouse gases are now measured in units equivalent of carbon dioxide (co2). A common and more frequently used unit of million metric tons is carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).

Currently carbon emissions are considered to be a mutual responsibility of the whole world and carbon reductions are considered as assets as they can turn into revenues or profits. According to the Kyoto Protocol free trading of emission reductions is allowed between all the countries on earth and these reductions can easily be transferred both on national and international levels between the members of different industries.

A conference on Climate Change was organized by United Nations and main objective of the conference is to stabilize the greenhouse gas emissions at a level where it would prevent the atmosphere from its harmful effects due to unhealthy human interference with the climate.

The framework drawn by the United Nations specifies the production of GreenHouse Gases reductions over a given period of time. This framework draws the GHG inventory reporting standards as well as studying the socio-economic aspects of such a restructuring process, facilitates technological and informational exchange, etc. Now with the completion of some of the highly successful and result oriented project rules and regulations of the GHG trading have been standardized and carbon market is getting its place among many other industries.

Experts at Carbon Services

At Carbon Services our consultants assist you by providing emission reduction solutions consultancy. Our highly experienced consultants will tell you how to perform your GHG emission reduction responsibilities and earn profit.

Global warming has become a common phenomenon of the whole world and each country should play his role to reduce its effects. The carbon market took a new shape when about 30 major nations from the whole world voluntarily adopted greenhouse gas emission reductions at a UNFCCC conference organized in Kyoto , Japan , in December 1997.

The development of policy on sink covers emissions and removals of greenhouse gases resulting from land use, land-use change and forestry.

Carbon Services consultants participate in projects that reduce the GHG emission in atmosphere. It can be achieved by planting trees, managing forests or by reducing emissions in the industry. We welcome you to join us to protect our environment for future generations.
